“It is truly an honor to be elected President of the World Poetry Slam Organization (nu voor ’t eggie) 🌍🌎🌏
Over the past nine months, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Acting President, working alongside incredible people from across the globe. It has been an adventure in itself. During and even before this role, I was present at the World Championships in Togo and Mexico, where poets from many countries gathered to make their voices heard through poetry. Witnessing this level of global connection truly warms my heart.
It has always been my dream to explore different cultures and learn about people through poetry, before, during, and after my world travels. Even more so, I’ve always wanted to show that despite our differences, we can come together, including in my hometown, Rotterdam. WPSO embodies exactly that spirit.
In this role, I will continue working with all members to build a global poetry slam community, one where people can safely come together to share their stories.
As President, my vision remains the same:
🌐 Strengthen global connections
🎤 Uplift unheard voices
🤝 Foster unity through spoken word
We are now heading toward the next World Poetry Slam Championship in Durban, South Africa, taking place from October 5–10, 2026. This will be a huge event! If you’re able to travel, I’d love to connect, and if not, the championship will also be available via livestream.
I would also like to congratulate those elected as Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Member, and sincerely thank everyone who applied. WPSO needs you to move forward. To those who came before us and built this organization from the ground up: thank you. We deeply acknowledge and respect the effort, heart, and soul you’ve invested.
Moving forward, WPSO will move its headquarters to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and we will need all the support and strength we can get.
